Concerned about your child having hemorrhoids? Don't worry, in this article I'm going to show you simple solutions that you can do immediately to help relieve your little ones hemorrhoid symptoms.
These are all natural remedies that are effective in your Childs hemorrhoid treatment, relieving pain and distress for your child and alleviating anxiety for you.
Hemorrhoids in children are generally mild and easy to cure, however, for your peace of mind it is important to consult your Pediatrician for advice and proper diagnosis. Before you commence any kind of treatment there are five things you should know:
1. what are hemorrhoids?
2. what causes hemorrhoids?
3. what are the symptoms?
4. what you can do to help.
5. how to carry out home treatments.
What are Hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are veins inside the anal canal that have become swollen due to straining and are called internal hemorrhoids.
External hemorrhoids mean that the swollen veins have been pushed through to the outside due to excessive straining and are more prone to inflammation and pain.
What causes Hemorrhoids?
There are many factors that can cause hemorrhoids in your child but the most common one is constipation.
Constipation is a condition in which the stools become very hard and can cause bowel movement to be difficult for a young child and because of this they may avoid going to the toilet.
This holding on causes the stool to build up and form a mass inside the rectum, sometimes there's leakage from behind the mass which causes fluid to leak out into the childs underwear. NOTE: This is often mistaken by the parent for diarrhea.
Diarrhea is a common childhood problem and can lead to dehydration and hemorrhoids. A child may sit on the toilet for too long during a bout of diarrhea, this should be discouraged as it puts pressure on the rectum.
Other causes:
  • poor diet.
  • low fluid intake, especially water.
  • not enough exercise.
Hemorrhoid symptoms. What to look for:
  • blood in the stool or on the toilet paper.
  • pain when passing a stool.
  • straining while sat on the toilet.
  • tearful and cranky especially around toilet time.
PAIN. Your child may also avoid going to the toilet because they know it's going to be painful. Young children seem to have a knack of ignoring the need to go especially when playing.
ITCHING. Is you child constantly scratching? This can cause the hemorrhoids to bleed which in turn can lead to infection and inflammation.
CAUTION: Anal itching can also be a symptom of a childhood condition known as Pinworm, please have it checked out by a Pediatrician.
Three things you can do immediately to help your child.:
1. ensure your child eats plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, grains and oats, this prevents constipation.
2. give your child lots of fluids especially water, this will help them from becoming dehydrated.
3. ensure your child gets plenty of exercise.
Home treatments:
To clean the area after a bowel movement use wipes moistened with warm water and pat dry, do not rub as this can damage sensitive tissue. Wipes soaked in Witch Hazel and dabbed on the hemorrhoids can bring instant relief.
Check your child stays clean and dry.
SITZ BATHS. Sitting your child in a warm bath filled with approximately 3 inches of water for 15 to 20 minutes three or four times a day will bring relief. The addition of any kind of salt will also benefit.
PAIN RELIEF. Sitting your child on an ice pack wrapped in a towel for a few minutes will bring relief.
Talking to your child, giving them praise and having lots and lots of patience will encourage your little one to co-operate which helps to speed up the healing process.
Long term results.
Teaching your child correct bowel habits and bowel hygiene along with sufficient exercise and a healthy diet will help prevent further problems.
